When was the last time you did something really kind for yourself? Whether it’s a bath, or a nap, or just saying nice things to yourself instead running through your to do list or criticizing your features?
I love this definition of kindness. It really is a virtue.
Kindness comes from your heart and the heart is the seat of real courage in the body.
In fact the word ‘courage’ comes from Latin, cor, meaning…you guessed it: heart.
So a heart-centered kindness habit or practice could be just what you need, especially if you are going through a difficult time.
Here’s quick exercise to get into your heart and enjoy some self-kindness:
- Sit quietly with both eyes shut.
- Take deep belly breaths in through the nose and out through the mouth.
- Focus on the area around the heart.
- Repeat for at least three breaths and for as long as you like.
Ahhh…feels so good.
Also, since kindness is an action that stems from the heart, another good way to be kind is by doing anything you love. It doesn’t have to take long. I love to boogey down with my dancing self. Sometimes, I only have five minutes, but I put that music on and go.
When we are kind to ourselves, it’s easier to be kind to others. This includes the men in our life.
This article that has been making it’s way around the web. It’s about the challenges men face that they don’t tell us. It helped me to realign with my own kindness and has some real salient points.
Also, lest you be a doormat, remember: the best way to be kind is to have clear boundaries based on your own preferences. Even better is to speak them with kindness. Kindness and clear boundaries work best together.
When I stay in my heart and have kindness for myself and others (as well as having clear boundaries), magic really happens in my life.
